Would let the user decide. For some users,
a new backup is the priority. You can warn them before
deleting the last backup.

Some of us have enough disk space, so the regular log
with a full file list could be an option.

I noticed that when a backup fails to save certain files, the automated e-mail message indicates success rather than failure. I would call an unexpectedly partial backup a failure.
