Hi,
in short due to a sensational mistake when I was reinstalling from scratch XP Home on my home Laptop I forgotten an USB External Drive connected, so in short I deleted the partitions on a 200GB external drive instead of the one on the internal 200GB drive - I realized that... but just a split second too late....!
As far as I remember the deleted partion were on the External drive:
- FAT32 or NTFS about 190 GB
- ext2 about 10 GB
Now I am trying to restore them.
This the steps I took :
- I disconnected the external drive from the laptop and connected it as secondary drive (D) to a desktop PC with XP SP3
- Downloaded and installed Partition Table Doctor Demo 3.5 on drive C:
- Tried the automatic restore but after 4 hours it is still at the "searching for partition window" ...
Should I stop it and try the interactive ?
Please advice. Thank you. |

Dear burgnin,
Could you tell us whether you backuped your external drive’s partition table. If you did, you can restore the partitions with our product Partition Table Doctor directly. If not, you can recover the partitions by “Rebuild Partition Table”. There is two choices to select.
Please see:
http://www.ptdd.com/rpt.htm
The Auto mode usually takes more time to search partitions. Please exit this mode and try Interactive mode.
If Rebuild Partition Table fails. Please don’t worry. We’ll send you another link to download our product Data Recovery Wizard. We think this software will help you recover the files in that external disk. AS there is an ext2 partition on that drive. You should down the Data Recovery Wizard professional edition:
http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizardpro/
You can download Data Recovery Wizard professional demo edition to see whether our product can help you to recovery your lost data. For your case, please try “Partition Recovery” mode and then recovery your previous data.
For your data’s security, please do not make any changes to your USB external drive. Please install Data Recovery Wizard to the drive which you don't need to recover data from.
As always, we recommend you to backup your system and disk with our Free Backup software - EASEUS Todo Backup (http://www.todo-backup.com).
Sincerely,
