I think i may have a problem. Im not panicing but I hope I can get this fixed.
C: 500gb Vista physical disk
D: 500gb XP physical disk
1 TB physical disk with
F: 500gb vista copied partition via easeus partition master
G: 500gb xp copied partion via easues partition master
I have been using partition master to backup my drives to partitions on the 1 tb disk. I attempted to restore the XP disk today from the partition. It does not boot. Is there a way to make it boot? Have I lost the MBR? Is there a way for me to get my xp disk to boot again. I have the data, it just wont boot. Please help! |

1 Vista is Home Premium, its not the problem
XP is SP2
all three drives are NTFS
I have 2 drives that I use independently (not a true dual boot) i just pick what drive I want to boot using f8 at startup, they are both 500gb
Im using a 1 tb disk, i used partition master to copy the vista and xp partitions to 2 500gb partions on the 1tb disk.
I dont recieve any error messages, the xp drive does not boot, and the vista drive just automatically boots even when I select the xp drive as the startup disk.

Dear partitioned_boots,
We are sorry for your trouble. Please don’t worry.
There is something wrong with your Boot item,so we suggest you to do some modifications. Because Windows Vista leads in Windows Boot Manager, which is a kind of brand new framework about boot loader,it supplies a new tool for editting the options of boot. That is BCDEdit.
For more information about BCDEdit, please refer to:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709667(WS.10).aspx
For your convenience, you can try this smart tool, please refer to:

Again, the problem is not with the vista disk, it is irrelevant in my situation.
Can you help me get my XP disk to boot when I select it as the startup disk.
How do I get a new MBR onto XP? |

Dear partitioned_boots,
We are sorry for your trouble. Please don’t worry. We will do our best to solve the problem for you.
When XP and Vista both exist, the only way to dual boot the system is to use Vista boot loader. In your case, the selections (XP,Vista) in the boot menu both point to your Vista system partition. So whatever you choose to boot from, the system will boot into Vista.
If you want to dual boot your XP and Vista correctly, you need to modify the BCD configuration. You can use BCDEdit for it.
For more information about BCDEdit, please refer to:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709667(WS.10).aspx
If you think the tool is difficult to use, you can try this smart tool:
