Cloned disk will not boot

Postby greginva » Tue Sep 14, 2010 2:45 am

I used Todo Back up to clone a disk in my laptop to a new larger hard drive. However, the new hard drive will not boot. I am using Windows 7 64 bit operating system. I booted the machine with the old drive and verified that the files on the new drive were there and everything looks good. I know that windows 7 does not use the boot.ini file anymore. I am concerned that there is an issue with the partition assignment as this is a Dell PC that has that annoying little partition before the primary partition. Everything from your software went great. It told me it completed successfully. Any ideas why the new one will not boot?

Dear greginva,

For your problem, firstly, you should connect the destination hard drive to computer only and then boot from computer to see whether you can boot successfully. If you connect the source hard drive and destination hard drive at the same time, it will cause bootable problem.
Secondly, please tell us the size of source hard drive and destination hard drive. Our product Todo Backup can support maximum 1.5TB hard drive. If the hard drive is larger than 1.5TB, our product can't assure you can execute the cloning operation successfully.
If your condition meets the two demands above, but you still can't boot from destination drive, we suggest you use windows installation CD to repair the system.

This is only a 500GB drive. I have booted it without the other drive and it did not work. I tried the windows repair. It did not work. It says it can not find a bootable device. Any other ideas?

Dear greginva,

According to your case, we suggest you backup the old drive, restore the backup image file to new drive, then try to boot from new drive.
